Why polypropylene?

What is it?
Polypropylene is a man made thermo plastic polymer. It can be made into a fabric and is similar to polyester. The fabric is made by a spinning process to create a web of cloth; traditional cotton garments are woven on a weave. This spinning process makes garments and products manufactured from spun polypropylene inexpensive by comparison with woven cotton.
Polypropylene is strong and durable, does not soak up water and is resistant to staining by most alkali's and acids and is therefore most suitable for use as laboratory coats, coveralls and many other everyday products. It has a soft feel and is comfortable to wear and causes no allergenic reactions.
The material can be laminated or fabricated into layers which provide the additional comfort benefits of breathablity and resistance to penetration by liquids.
Why use polypropylene instead of cotton?
Products and garments made from polypropylene often cost a tenth of traditional cotton items. Cotton also will require regular laundering
which requires transportation to and from the laundry, a hot environmentally
harming 85 degrees C wash and the logistics of returning each item to
an individual. Whilst the item is away at the laundry at least one spare will be required adding to the overall expense.
The cost of regularly sending garments to the laundry plus the man hours involved will be considerable over 2 years and the cotton items will still need final disposal. Polypropylene garments can be sent for recycling with other plastics when no longer suitable to be worn or used.
Advantages of using polypropylene.
Lower cost, convenience and always having a clean product available.
